The SWLondon Cancer Network User Partnership (SWLCNUP) brings together patients (users) carers and health professionals to consider and discuss issues that affect patients affected by cancer (pabc) and their carers. It aims to use its experiences and views to influence the development of cancer services locally across the Network area and to contribute Nationally. The group is facilitated by Barbara Gallagher.
The group has a powerful voice and ensures that patients views are high in the Network agenda.
The Partnership is not a support group.
At present there are also two local user groups covering the Wandsworth and Sutton and Merton areas. These groups will work with health professionals to improve local services.
New groups will be set up in 2008 for the Kingston, Richmond and Twickenham and Croydon areas.
Representatives of the local groups will become members of the SWLCNUP. They will work together to share work and ideas and will work closely with doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
The SWLCNUP has the full support of the SW London Cancer Network and Macmillan Cancer Support.
The Chair and vice Chair of the Partnership group is always a user or carer and are members of the Cancer Network Board.
Partnership representatives are also members of clinical working groups working with senior health professionals.
There are a number of ways you can become involved.
By joining the Network Partnership Group. The group meets every two months 10am-2pm on a Saturday in Wimbledon.
By joining a Local Group. Either an existing one or one of those planned for in 2008. These meet monthly in the local area.
By becoming a member of a specific cancer working group. These groups look at issues relating to the specific cancers.
By becoming an email member reviewing leaflets, patient information and other document.
Training is provided to members of all groups to help them contribute fully.
Expenses are reimbursed.
